WHAT IS TRAVERTINE TILE?
TRAVERTINE FINISHES
Travertine is a versatile choice with various finishes to help you achieve your desired look.
Polished: Create a luxurious appearance with polished travertine’s high shine. Polished travertine is smoothed and glossed to obtain a reflective surface.
Honed: Honed finishes provide a smooth, matte finish without any shine. Honed travertine can be filled or unfilled. This look and texture are achieved by grinding and buffing one side of the unfinished stone.
Brushed: Utilize the natural look of travertine with a brushed finish. This textured finish features an unfilled exterior and offers a rustic yet sophisticated appearance. The surface of the stone is brushed with a brush or wire wheel until the desired texture is achieved.
Tumbled: To create tumbled travertine, pieces of stone are cut, sized, and placed in a rubber-coated or plastic barrel with abrasive grit and water. Sometimes, a small amount of acid is mixed in. The barrel is turned repeatedly, allowing the stones to rub against each other, softening and wearing down the edges. This results in a natural, worn look with a high-textured finish. The major difference between brushed and tumbled travertine is that tumbled travertine has softened edges.
DIY Installation Tip: Tumbled travertine should be sealed before and after grouting.
